About Me

Hi everyone, my name is Ayesha, and I’m a 3rd year medical student at UEA. I enjoy medicine to no end, and so far, my favourite part has been interacting with patients and learning about conditions through their perspective. I find connecting different symptoms to their pathophysiology interesting, and I also like the variation from day-to-day. This course has also given me lots of teaching opportunities, whether that’s in peer assisted learning as a mentor or as a mock OSCE examiner.

I also appreciate that there’s some amount of skill involved when it comes to eliciting certain signs and I find it very gratifying when I can observe the tangible manifestations of a condition and consequently see improvement in a person’s condition over time with treatment. Through medicine, I wake up to a new challenge every day and have been encouraged to constantly keep evolving and pushing my comfort zone, which has made me develop skills that I would’ve found difficult to practice in the past such as leadership or resilience.

I have rediscovered the importance of a good work-life balance, and strive towards it by making sure to take some time for myself, which can be through reading a nice book, going out for a walk or watching a movie.

That’s some information about me, I hope I can make a difference through some of the aforementioned skills and experiences!

My teaching style

I enjoy teaching using application of previous knowledge. I’ve found in the past when doing PBL cases, for example, that I find information a lot more interesting if I have a basis or case to connect it to. It also helps me start from the fundamentals and build up knowledge over time. Another thing I like to emphasize is repetition. The more I repeat something, the easier it is to recall with time.

My past experience

Yes, I have taught 1st year medical students in the past as a mentor in peer assisted learning. I have also been a facilitator in inter-professional learning, where I was primarily responsible for helping healthcare students from different disciplines discuss different cases from varying viewpoints.

My Proudest Achievements

One of the hobbies I most enjoy is writing. In the past, I had the opportunity to represent my school and write an article in a competition. As a result, I ended up winning and got to attend an awards ceremony with my parents. That is still one of my proudest achievements. Another one of my fond achievements is getting into medical school, I still feel the happiness from that day.
