Alex
About Me
Hi! My name is Alex, and I’m currently a third year student at the University of Edinburgh studying Geology and Physical Geography. In school, I chose to do the IB curriculum, with geography, biology and chemistry at higher level, and English language and literature, Maths analysis and approaches and Norwegian literature at standard level. My hobbies include wintersports (downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding), art, taking care of my pets, hiking, and horseriding.
I have a deep understanding and passion for topics related to geology (specifically dinosaurs!), zoology, as well as climate change and resources. My goal for you as a tutor is to show you a deeper appreciation for a certain subject, while also making sure you understand its content and don’t have any confusion or difficulty with it.
My teaching style
My teaching style is extremely flexible – what this means is that teaching doesn’t need to take place at a certain time and day each week, but is suited to your availability. Additionally, my teaching style will change according to a student’s needs, as everyone has different ways of learning and different perspectives regarding certain topics. I want the tuition to be as comfortable as possible for you.
When meeting new students, my first aim is to get to know them – and then from that, learn about their goals, and what they wish to achieve moving forward. I need to understand your strengths and weaknesses in order to most effectively teach you and increase your understanding of the subject.
My Proudest Achievements
1. successfully teaching some friends and family friends how to ski (from complete beginners)
2. consistently horse riding since I was 8
3. studying in Edinburgh (it’s a really pretty city!)
