About Me

Hi there, I’m Tammy, a first year English student at Oxford! I have experience teaching students from 7-10 the 11+ English and maths exams, as well as tutoring older students with a-level English material, specifically how to write better essays, engaging with texts and how to formulate arguments. I know what it is like to be struggling with essay subjects like history, French, politics and English as I took them for a level and achieved 3 A* and one A in history, with full marks in my coursework. I am deeply empathetic and will be able to help students achieve their best potential whilst encouraging a passion for learning and making connections between different areas of studies. Learning and making mistakes are natural in discovering how we learn best and I will help my students with all their needs to find their own passions in what they are learning as well!

My teaching style

I create my own lesson plans tailored on what the students need help with and their school exam board; I will first identify the student’s strengths and weaknesses through a test to see what they already know and then will create lesson plans that are detailed from this. Over each session, we will work on improving areas of difficulty, I will give them some work to do independently and then return to me, as well as some practice papers that we will work through or discuss together in the sessions. Each week I will give feedback on the student’s progress in our sessions and will provide the parent with in depth check ins as well to ensure that we are tracking the improvements along the way! I am very enthusiastic about how to create engaging and interesting tutoring sessions that will help the student.

My past experience

I have tutored 7-8 year olds with English comprehension, creative writing and with maths. I have also mentored 16-17 year olds with English and history help, as well as creating resources for a-level politics revision for students that have needed them.

My Proudest Achievements

My proudest achievements are overcoming online learning with my a-levels as it was a great challenge to continue working with difficult conditions and education barriers. Moving to the UK from Mongolia, aged 3, I found it challenging to learn English and feel confident at school but with hard work and support from my teachers, I found a deep passion for learning and teaching others as well, culminating in my a-level grades that ultimately got me accepted to read English literature at the University of Oxford, which is something I will always feel proud of!
