About Me
Hello! I’m Nicole, a second year medical student studying at Cardiff University School of Medicine. I’m originally from Hong Kong and have been studying in the United Kingdom since year 9. I have completed my iGCSEs and A-level examinations and achieved 9 9s and 2 As in my iGCSEs, as well as obtaining 4A*s (Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Chinese) in my A-levels. I enjoy boxing and creating digital paintings during my spare time. As an international student, I fully understand the competitiveness with regards to gaining a place at a Medical School. I view the medical school application process as a strategic game. Therefore, I believe that I will be able to utilise the knowledge and skills that I have gained, as well as some lesser known strategies that I have used during the application process to maximise your chances of getting accepted into medical schools.
My teaching style
I believe that each student has different needs, and therefore, I would tailor my teaching style according to their abilities and what they want to focus on. I would also ensure that lessons are interactive as this increases the memory retention rates. I’m going to achieve this by asking questions during the lesson and creating multiple choice/fill in the blank questions in my PowerPoint presentations. I would also target a student’s weakness by spending more time in explaining difficult concepts and quizzing them on their previous mistakes. This ensures less marks are deducted in areas where the student is less confident at and therefore maximises the student’s grades.
My past experience
I am currently as a tutor for an organisation named PreMedEazy, which is an organisation created by Cardiff University. My role is to deliver online mock MMI sessions on Zoom once every week. Hence, I do have experience in online teaching. I also worked as a teaching assistant at several primary schools in Hong Kong last summer.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements include being accepted into a medical school in the United Kingdom, achieving 4 A*s in my A-levels and 9 9s in my GCSEs, getting a full scholarship in my secondary school years, and also being able to live in a foreign country independently from year 9 onwards.
