About Me

Hi! I’m Kanika, a 4th year medical student at University of Leeds. I understand how daunting the university application process and medical interviews are and strive to provide the best possible support during these stressful times. Having received 6 university offers for Medicine, I can rightfully articulate that I have ample understanding of the medical admission and interview process. I do entirely recognise the anxiety of medical school admission process and wish to extend informative advice to navigate an aspiring medic through these skills.

As an international student, I understand the struggle of adapting to new environment and am well equipped to guide on these aspects as well. As for my counselling and support to an aspiring Medic (i.e. the process and preparation), I will dedicate moulding specific knowledge on medical topics and developing delicate conversation skills.

My teaching style

My teaching style will be individualistic to each student and will adapt conferring to requirements focusing on total ability with steered lessons in specific areas. I can quickly identify individual student learning styles to tailor trainings to their needs. For instance, many students are visual learners so I would incorporate pictorial guides whereas others may prefer more interactive learning thus more practice based sessions.

My past experience

Throughout my schooling, I provided IB Personal Project mentoring for students at school.

I have tutored and provided assistance for various IB school students regarding specific internal assessment projects in Chemistry, Biology and Economics and preparing for IB exams with effective use of coaching tools.

I have conducted short term specific online lessons to IB students in specific areas such as IB Extended Essays and mock exams to train and improve student grades, study habits and time management.

Furthermore I started my own student-led Yoga co-curricular activity to teach other students mindfulness and well-being through yoga.

My Proudest Achievements

I am the clinical years representative at University of Leeds for the General Surgery Society, thus being an advocate for student voice and actively engaged with my university community.

I have also been the University of Leeds representative in the Hong Kong Medical Society of the United Kingdom (HKMSUK) for the past two years, allowing me to engage/network with medics and alumni across other UK universities.

As a certified yoga instructor, I conducted many pro-bono classes both for students within my school and externally. I do continue with my yoga practices in university and community life in order to positively contribute to physical and mental well-being.

I have been also an academic scholarship recipient at school and as such, been an example to encourage my peers to perform well in studies.

I have also been awarded a bronze medal in the International Global Citizens (IGC) Award for actively contributing to my local community.
