Kazi
About Me
Hi, my name is Kazi and I’m a fourth year medical student at Imperial College London.
I am drawn towards clinical medicine because I like how It combines a scientific discipline with the opportunity to interact with a variety of people, and positively impact their life. My favorite moments at medical school thus far have been during placement, when I’ve been able to witness this first-hand.
I am looking to pursue a career in general surgery, and I’m currently studying an intercalated bachelor’s of science in surgical design and technology to explore the intersection between innovation and healthcare, and learn how best to apply it in my clinical practice in the future.
Having been involved in teaching for a number of years, I have seen first hand the reward and satisfaction received when a student finally grasps a challenging concept – a ‘penny drop’ moment.
This fuels my desire to continue to develop skills in teaching and, coupled with my background in teaching, uniquely places me in a position to reciprocate the learning experience I gained from my admissions cycle by helping the next round of future-doctors achieve their dreams of getting into medical school too.
My teaching style
My teaching approach is highly student-centered. Before going through a topic, I listen to my students and, if they would like, liaise with their parents/guardians to gauge their specific ideas, concerns, and goals before working with them to build a management plan to help them streamline their journey to success.
During a typical session, I focus on helping my student nurture a strong understanding of a topic as I firmly believe this approach makes learning much more interesting & effective, and leads to much higher results than just pure rote memorisation.
I tend to go through exam style questions from previous years as, especially with the sciences, It is critical to know not only what to write but also how to write it in an exam situation; I work with my students to identify weaknesses in their technique and fine tune their concision to help them pick up the trickiest marks in exams.
If my student would like some help with interview preparation, I work with them to help them build high yield habits, develop the right skillset, and practice the step-by-step framework that has allowed my previous students to receive offers from some of the top medical schools in the world.
My past experience
Over the past 3 years, I have been tutoring with several companies, including 6med and UniAdmissions. I have almost 100 hours of tutoring MMI and panel interview and my previous students have gone on to secure offers some of the World’s top medical schools, including from Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial and UCL.
I am also a scholar of the Imperial College Medical Education Teaching Academy, and have delivered 10 lectures for medical students on topics ranging from Diabetes, GORD, COPD, ILD, and Abdominal Anatomy.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievement is the day that I secured my offer from Imperial. It was my dream since the beginning of sixth form, and to experience its realisation is not only a moment I’ll never forget; its memory gives me a deep sense of gratitude every time that I reflect on the opportunity I’ve been given to pursue my passion at this exceptional institution.
