Emily
About Me
Hi, my name is Emily and I am a 6th year medical student at the University of Cambridge. I have tutored 13 students on 6med already and I specialise in Medicine Applications. At the time of my interviews I achieved all of my offers (from Cambridge, Imperial, Kings and Newcastle) and I am currently in the top 10% of my year at Cambridge, having recently gained a William Harvey Studentship for my exam performances. I like my interviews to cover a broad range of topics from biomedical knowledge to current medical affairs and even statistics, as I find that this best prepares my candidates for their actual interviews. I even include the exact questions I was asked at my own interviews for added realism as well as other questions that I have heard asked at other colleges. During my 6 years studying medicine at university and interacting with numerous scholars, I have learnt what to look for in a successful candidate and my aim is for my tutees to emulate this. During the last round of applications all 3/3 of my Oxbridge tutees secured offers from their desired colleges as well as the other 4 of my tutees securing their first-choice medical school offers.
My teaching style
I have always enjoyed teaching. Throughout my academic education my peers have often asked me to explain the content with which they were struggling. This resulted in me being asked to teach my senior school peers the content for our FSMQ (free standing maths qualification) exam which was not covered by the GCSE maths syllabus. I held weekly sessions at my house to explain the content and to practice questions together as a group of 8. All the girls were delighted with their results and I felt a real sense of achievement that I had helped them get there and at our group success.
During my A-levels, a friend who had due to resit lower sixth due to medical conditions, came to me for help with his maths A-level and I spent 1.5 hours every week going through the syllabus and example questions with him.
I have participated running cambridge summer camps, including STEM-Smart and Women’s in Maths, which were held at my college. I have now tutored a number of student through uni admissions for UCAT, BMAT and Medical Interviews.
My past experience
I have tutoring a number of students through GCSE, A-levels and medicine applications. During the last round of applications all 3/3 of my Oxbridge tutees secured offers from their desired colleges as well as the other 4 of my tutees securing their first-choice medical school offers.
My Proudest Achievements
My proudest achievements are winning a Royal Society of Medicine prize for palliative care and coming in the top 10% of my year in Cambridge.
