About Me

From the moment I studied English literature and language for my GCSEs, I knew I had found my passion. The ability to explore different perspectives, craft compelling narratives, and decode the deeper meanings behind words fascinated me. That passion led me to pursue English at A-Level, where I developed a deep understanding of exam techniques, analysis, and creative writing—skills I now share with my students as a dedicated tutor.

My role as a tutor goes beyond teaching—it’s about mentorship and encouragement. I know how frustrating it can be when a student feels stuck or lacks confidence in their abilities. That’s why I create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and growing at their own pace.

To track progress, I provide:

Personalised feedback – highlighting strengths and areas for improvement.

Regular assessments – using past exam papers and tailored exercises.

Parental updates – ensuring parents understand their child’s current level and how to help them improve.

My teaching style

I believe that English isn’t just about memorising words or writing structured essays—it’s about developing critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to express ideas effectively.

I provide expert tutoring in:

KS1 & KS2 English – Building strong literacy foundations through reading, writing, and comprehension exercises.

KS3 English – Enhancing analytical skills, essay writing, and literary comprehension.
GCSE English Language & Literature – Focusing on exam techniques, in-depth textual analysis, and creative writing strategies.

A-Level English Literature – Developing critical perspectives, exploring literary theory, and mastering complex essay writing.

Another essential part of my teaching is poetry analysis—a challenge for many students. To ease them into it, I start with a simple five-minute exercise: I ask them to identify any literary techniques in a poem and make brief notes on what they understood about the poem so far. Then, we discuss the meaning (of the poem) together before repeating the exercise with a deeper understanding. This step-by-step approach gradually builds their analytical skills, making poetry less intimidating and more engaging.

Many students struggle with descriptive writing, so I guide them using the five senses method. Instead of simply telling them to “use adjectives,” I encourage them to ask:

What can you see?
What can you hear?
What can you smell?
What can you feel?
What can you taste?
By applying this technique to an exam image prompt, students naturally develop richer, more immersive descriptions. Many have found this method invaluable, especially when tackling the 40-mark creative writing question in the GCSE Language paper.

For advanced students, I integrate narrative techniques such as first- and third-person perspectives, plot development, and characterisation—elements I use in my own writing. These techniques not only enhance their exam performance but also help them develop a genuine love for storytelling.

My past experience

For the past two years, I have tutored students from KS1 to A-Level, helping them navigate the complexities of English with confidence. Whether it’s mastering essay structure, improving analytical skills, or excelling in creative writing, I am committed to ensuring that every student reaches their full potential.

My Proudest Achievements

One of my proudest achievements as a tutor is seeing my students return with big smiles, excited to tell me they aced their GCSE or A-Level exams—or that, for the first time, they walked out of an exam room feeling confident. I’ve had students who once struggled with structuring essays or analysing poetry come back saying, “I used PEEL, and it made my essay so much clearer!” or “The five senses method really helped in my creative writing!” Moments like these make all the hard work worthwhile. Their success is my success, and I couldn’t be prouder!
