14About Me
Hi, my name is Sophie Young and I am a 5th year medical student at the University of Sunderland.
I am the first medical student in my family and hope to help open the doors for others to do the same.
When completing my GCSES I achieved 11 GCSEs with 4A*s 5As and 2Bs. At A-level I achieved ABBB in Maths, English literature, Chemistry and Biology.
I achieved 4/4 offers to interview based on my personal statement at the University of Dundee, University of Aberdeen, University of Sunderland and Queen’s University Belfast.
I am a peer mentor with the Social Mobility Foundation and help mentor students who wish to pursue medicine achieve their goal (targeted at students from lower income schools and families).
During my time at secondary school I was a prefect and tutored the younger years with their GCSEs and junior certificate exam (specific to my secondary school).
I successfully passed my Medical School Finals in my 4th year (the new MLA AKT) and gained the ranking of 10th in my year group
My teaching style
I like to use active recall and quizzes in my methods, I think being able to recall information and apply it is far more useful than being able to regurgitate information. Slides and physical resources will be available to help consolidate knowledge and for you to go back and look at any time you like.
My past experience

My Proudest Achievements
Getting into medical school was a massive achievement for me, I come from a single parent background with no doctors in the family so was very proud of myself for gaining a place and keeping my place through the years.
