Finley
About Me
Hi, I’m Fin, an experienced and highly qualified tutor with over 500 hours of maths and physics tutoring. I hold a master’s degree in physics from Oxford, where I ranked in the top 10% of my cohort and received the best dissertation award for my work on higher-form symmetries in quantum field theory. I’m currently researching string theory at the London Institute for Mathematical Sciences (LIMS), the UK’s only private physics and maths research institute.
I specialise in preparing students for common entrance exams in technical fields at top universities, such as the PAT, ESAT, and others. I have a 100% success rate with students I’ve mentored for Oxbridge admissions, guiding them to achieve their academic ambitions. Whether it’s helping a student shine in their interview at Oxford or improving their confidence with A-Level content, I am committed to excellence and student success.
I tutor online, making use of interactive tools and resources to deliver engaging lessons. If you’re aiming for top university admissions or want to excel in maths or physics, I’m here to help you succeed.
My teaching style
My teaching style is relaxed and friendly, but I’m assertive when necessary to keep students on track. I focus on breaking down complex problems into simple principles, demystifying the technical aspects of maths and physics so students can approach challenges with confidence. I thrive in the online environment, using collaborative virtual whiteboards and preparing bespoke revision and homework materials to ensure students get the most out of their lessons.
With unique and deep insights into the field from my position as a researcher at the forefront of theoretical physics, I bring a rich understanding to my lessons. I’m also passionate about making learning engaging—I’ve even coded my own Java simulations, such as one for projectile motion in A-Level physics, so students can fully grasp challenging concepts. Whether you’re preparing for exams or just looking to deepen your understanding, I provide the tools and guidance to help you succeed academically.
My past experience
Yes, I have over 500 hours of experience tutoring maths and physics, helping students at various levels, including GCSE, A-Level, and university entrance exams like the PAT and ESAT.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements is coming from a small-town state school, where only one student typically makes it to Oxbridge every five years, and a low-income family, and managing to study at Oxford. I graduated in the top percentiles of my cohort, overcoming significant challenges to succeed academically at one of the world’s leading universities.
