About Me

Hi! I’m Alvin and I’m an international medic from the University of Bristol. I’m from Hong Kong so I am able to teach in English, Mandarin and Cantonese fluently.

Although I’m now studying medicine, I still recall the many hurdles that I have to face going into Med school vividly. From the arduous UCAT to the nerve-racking interviews, getting into Med school is far from easy. To up my chances of being accepted into medicine, I personally attended UCAT and interview classes when I applied to medicine, which I found to be immensely useful. Therefore, after entering Med school successfully, I aspire to be a tutor who can not only share personal tips and tricks on entering Med school, but can also cater to each student’s needs so that their journey to medicine can be less daunting and more assuring.

My teaching style

I personally do not have a definitive, clear-cut teaching style as I believe that it really depends on the student in terms of which teaching style suits him/her/them. While I personally prefer teaching students efficiently on theory-based content and focusing more on practice and drilling, I am also good at illustrating and explaining concepts using day-to-day examples and metaphors.

My past experience

I have over 2 years of experience tutoring students from all ages (both primary and secondary school students). I have also volunteered as an interviewer in a mock MMI hosted by MedStart Bristol (which is under Bristol Medical School), in which I gave in-depth feedback to participants, alongside tailored recommendations on improving one’s answers.

My Proudest Achievements

I have recently volunteered with Bristol DermSoc to raise awareness on skin cancer among primary school students, as well as teaching them relevant preventative strategies. Although this may not be directly related to the UCAT or interviews, this activity has certainly enriched my teaching experience.
