About Me
Hi, I’m Yousof — a first-year medical student at the University of Exeter with a real passion for helping others succeed. I tutor GCSE and A-Level Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and Arabic, as well as support students preparing for the UCAT and medicine or dentistry interviews.
I’ve recently gone through these stages myself and achieved top grades in all my subjects, so I know exactly how demanding exams can be — and how much of a difference the right support can make. What I offer is more than just subject knowledge: I help students feel confident, stay motivated, and approach their learning in a way that works for them.
I’ve always enjoyed supporting others in their learning. I’ve helped several friends prepare for their medical and dental school interviews by running detailed mock MMI stations and giving feedback tailored to their performance. Seeing them grow more confident with each session reminded me of how powerful guidance and encouragement can be. That’s exactly what I aim to bring to each of my tutoring sessions.
Having come from a strong academic background, I understand how to approach different exam boards and question types. I achieved grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Business, Arabic, Sport Studies, and Further Maths at GCSE, and continued to perform at a high level during A-Levels. My own preparation for UCAT and interviews was intense but rewarding — I’ve learned the importance of strategy, timing, and mindset, and I love sharing these insights with others.
One experience that shaped my academic journey was moving to the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic. I spent my first year at home with no school and entered the UK schooling system straight away. Despite this challenge, I quickly adapted and was honoured to receive an award for achieving the best GCSE results in my school. That year taught me how to be resilient, self-motivated, and proactive in my learning — qualities I now try to pass on to the students I tutor.
Beyond academics, I’ve competed as a swimmer at both national level in Saudi Arabia and regional level in the UK. Training at this level has taught me resilience, discipline, and how to perform under pressure — skills I apply not just to my own studies, but to how I teach and support others. I’m also involved in various research and volunteering projects, which have helped me become a strong communicator, a good listener, and someone who genuinely enjoys working with people.
Tutoring for me is about connection. I understand that no two students are the same, and I pride myself on adapting my approach to suit each individual’s needs. Whether someone needs help mastering exam technique, breaking down complex topics, or building their confidence, I’m here to support them every step of the way. I keep lessons structured, interactive, and reflective — always striving to make learning feel manageable and enjoyable.
Above all, I care deeply about the students I work with. I see tutoring as a partnership: your goals are my goals. If you’re willing to put in the effort, I’ll match it with all the energy and dedication I can give. We’ll work together to understand what you need most and build a plan that helps you get there — whether that’s improving grades, nailing interview technique, or just feeling more in control of your studies.
My teaching style
My teaching approach is student-centred and flexible. I take time to understand how each student learns best—whether that’s through visual aids, step-by-step breakdowns, or active discussion—and tailor my sessions accordingly. I aim to keep lessons engaging, clear, and structured, usually delivering one-hour sessions with a short break halfway to help maintain focus and maximise cognitive engagement.
After each session, I reflect on what went well and what could be improved, adapting my approach as needed to make sure each student receives the highest standard of support. My goal is to not only help students understand the content but also build their confidence and independent thinking so they can tackle future challenges with clarity and self-belief.
My past experience
Throughout my academic journey, I’ve consistently supported others in their learning. During GCSEs and A-Levels, I regularly helped classmates by explaining challenging topics and sharing effective revision strategies. I also served as a mentor for younger students at my school, offering academic support and helping them adjust to new environments. More recently, I’ve conducted several mock interviews for friends applying to medicine and dentistry, providing detailed verbal and written feedback to help them refine their answers and build confidence. These experiences have strengthened my communication skills, patience, and ability to adapt my approach to suit different learners.
My Proudest Achievements
One of my proudest achievements was obtaining the highest GCSE results in my school, despite moving to the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic. Adapting to a new education system, culture, and language while navigating the challenges of remote learning was incredibly difficult, but it taught me resilience and discipline.
Another significant achievement was representing my region at national-level swimming competitions. Balancing rigorous academic demands with intense athletic training helped me develop strong time management and perseverance.
I’m also proud of the support I provided to my peers applying for medicine and dentistry. I regularly held mock interviews and offered constructive feedback, which helped several of them secure offers. It was rewarding to contribute to their success and foster a collaborative learning environment.
Finally, securing a place in a highly competitive medicine course, after being in the UK for less than five years, is something I hold close to my heart. It reflects not just academic achievement, but personal growth, adaptability, and a deep commitment to my goals.
